Scaling shapes lab:Students practiced doubling dimensions of various shapes and creating a scale model. Then students worked on discovering the relationship between the two object's volume. Shadow Fractions lab: Students compared the size of an object and its shadow at different distances from a wall and created ratios and then looked at the data to find relationships.
Students extended what they learned about scaling to 3 dimensional shapes, enlarging and decreasing the dimensions of a simple 3-D shape proportionally and then creating a scale model of the original out of poster board.
Students will review the general safety rules of the fabrication lab (workshop). Students need to get the contract signed by a parent or guardian and return it next class. Students will have a quiz on these safety rules next class!.
Students will also take a pre-assessment to determine their measuring skills. This will not be graded.
